What is an exercise physiologist?
An accredited exercise physiologist (AEP, or EP) is an Allied Health professional who specialises in the use of exercise to help patients get fitter and healthier. Exercise physiologists undergo 4 years of university training plus ongoing accreditation requirements, qualifying them to be able to treat clients with medical conditions through exercise prescription and rehabilitation plans.
iNform’s Exercise Physiologists are experienced in treating conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic and persistent pain, cancer and depression and can help you find the best way to exercise and take charge of these so that you can focus on living your life.
Our Exercise Physiology services are covered by many private health funds giving you greater accessibility to these specialised services. If you currently suffer from a chronic health condition you may also qualify for Medicare or DVA rebates.
How do you work?
We always start with an Initial Needs Assessment which is a 60 minute consult to assess your current body conditioning, identify any injuries or weaknesses, as well as set some goals in order for us to put together a program that is tailored specifically to you. Normally from there we like to see you at least once a week for 30 minute sessions to progress you through and make sure everything is working the way it should be. We also include a homework program for you to complete between sessions with your trainer. Your program is designed to be ongoing so we are with you for as long as you need us.
I don't want to be a body builder or elite athlete - can you still help me?
This is vital to understand – we work with you to set your goals. We don’t force you to train for a marathon if all you want to be able to do is get through your normal daily routines with more energy, or just slim down and tone up a little, or get support in an area of health or lifestyle you are struggling to make progress in alone.
We believe the stakes are too high for you, your workplace and your family, to leave your health to chance when a few strategic changes now can ring in enormous benefits tomorrow.
So please give us a try and let us take you through our approach to your health, even if you have had bad experiences with other “gyms” or “exercise regimes”.
I’m not a gym goer, nor do I like gyms! But I need guidance with exercise. Can you help?
Come and meet us and see for yourself just how different our approach is to regaining health and fitness. A visit will also give you a feel for the friendly, non-threatening environment where all clients work with their assigned exercise physiologist who guide them through their program at their own pace.
Do I need to be suffering from a chronic health condition to see an exercise physiologist?
Absolutely not! Exercise physiologists are health professionals whose services can be used for anyone. Here at iNform we specialise in creating movement journey’s for everyone based entirely on that individual. Whether the goal be pain based or performance based, we can help!
Can I see you under a referral from my GP?
The EPC program entitles eligible people up to 5 subsidised sessions through Medicare for treatment of a chronic condition. Eligibility for this program is at the discretion of your GP. Referred participants will receive a rebate for each of the 5 sessions. Full payment is required at the time of consultation and our admin team will submit the claim to Medicare on your behalf.
Do I need a referral?
Not at all! While many of our clients are referred by their health and medical professionals, this is not necessary. You can just contact us and book to see one of our exercise physiologists!
Can I claim on your services under my private health?
You should be able to claim a little back on exercise physiology services. We do not have a HICAPS machine so it is simply a matter of submitting your receipts to your provider. Generally it is best to check with your provider what your rebates will be.
What length of session is best for me?
Following the initial assessment we offer 30min, 45min and 60min sessions. Duration and regularity of training will depend on what you are looking to achieve.
We have recently introduced a 45 minute session to our list of services because of the compelling research that shows that this is the optimal period of time for strength based sessions.
However, if you are looking for improvements in blood sugars, blood pressure, or weight loss, shorter but more frequent sessions may be more beneficial. For example three 30 minute sessions would give you greater benefit than two 45 minute sessions, even though the exercise time is the same.
We find the 60 minute session is most beneficial for those who not only want to be trained, but also want to be coached with extra time to develop programs, monitor improvements and answer any questions about your training.
What payment options are there?
As there is no lock in contract you are free to choose the manner in which you pay. You have the choice to pay session to session as you go along or we also have the option of a pack payment, auto renewal, or an external direct debit system that will reduce the cost of sessions.
What about pricing?
Initially, we like to package your initial consult and first 10 sessions together at a cost of $824 to make it as cost effective as possible. Otherwise an initial consult by itself is normally $199.
If you choose to pay as you go along our standard 30 minute session is $84.
Our pack options require upfront payment for 10 sessions at a time at a cost of $67.50/session saving you $16.50/session!
The automatic renewal system still involves an upfront purchase of a pack of 10 sessions. However, it requires that we keep your credit card details on file. At the second to last session of the 10 pack we will notify you that you are due for a new pack of sessions. This will automatically occur at your next appointment should you not notify us otherwise. For this option you also get a further 5% off the pack prices.
The direct debit system can give you greater flexibility in payments so you are not paying for 10 sessions at a time. This is normally set up as a weekly or fortnightly payment from a bank account still at a 5% discount from our pack pricing. For example if you are seeing you trainer twice a week and wanted to set us a fortnightly payment you would only be paying for 4 sessions at a time instead of 10!
NB: As our Direct Debit service is performed by an external provider, EzyPay, there are some fees and charges that they apply. This includes a once off $2.20 setup fee, along with an 88 cent transaction fee for bank accounts while Visa/MasterCard fees are 1.8% and AMEX/Diners are 4.2%.
NB: Pricing is dependant on length of session and seniority of trainer.
What is the cancellation policy?
We do just ask for 12 hours notice of cancellation. This can be done via email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or phone call to (08) 8431 2111 where a message can be left after hours or even via reply sms to your appointment reminder text message!
What do I bring to my first appointment?
For your first visit just bring anything you think may be relevant to your health currently. This could be recent medical reports or scans.
What do I need to wear to my appointments/sessions?
As most of your sessions will be out on the gym floor just wear something comfortable that you can easily move around in as well as walking shoes or sneakers.
