Good Article Scott,

It appears that as society advances and we in theory become smarter ....we actually outsmart ourselves......unlike the Tarahumara people.......or indeed my dog.........my Golden Retriever is nearly 13 which by standards of that breed is geriatric but nobody ever told "Myles" and he continues to romp around like a teenager. He may not be the "sharpest tool in the box" but his attitude to life is fabulous.

I recall as a child my Great Grandfather was a professional fisherman and it never occured to him to retire......his eye site faded to the point he could only go as far as the 3 mile beacon or he would not be able
to find his way home..........he still drove (which was a wee bit scary!) .....he still lived in his big old home in
remarkablely good health............in fact he died at a very great age because he fell off his ladder whilest
pruning his fruit trees. That was George.

Both Myles and George are great examples of what Scott is talking about.......we tend to overimpose limits
on ourselves due to age.....we should just keep on keeping on. A 90 year old falling off his ladder whilst pruning his fruit trees after a day out fishing is a rather more attractive end than wasting away in an old
folks home. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a choice but many are and should take the chance.

Brett.....please don't quote this response to me when I'm on my 4th set of chin-ups! that is entirely different

Thanks for that Nicky, sounds delicious! Adding chia to this would be a great way of boosting the omega 3's. I find that you hardly notice them especially when you soak them in some form of liquid and they become jelly-like.

here's my version of low fat, high protein, gluten free breakfast:
250g low fat smooth ricotta cheese
1.5 cups almond meal (you can use meal from almonds +/- their skins, but obviously you get more fibre from the skins)
stewed fruit (with cloves) from 5 Granny Smith apples (uncooked apples and apple skins don't agree with me but you could just use grated apple fresh each morning)
mix well together, store in the fridge - lasts me a week.
nice warm in winter!
